Small but Nice–Seed Dispersal by Tamarins Compared to Large Neotropical Primates

چکیده
Tamarins, small Neotropical primates of the genera Saguinus and Leontocebus, have a mainly frugivorous-faunivorous diet. While consuming pulp high diversity fruit species, they also swallow seeds void them intact, thus acting as seed dispersers. Here we compare different aspects dispersal ecology tamarins with that large from Ateles (spider monkeys) Lagothrix (woolly monkeys). Due to their body size, disperse smaller size range, fewer per defecation, number plant species defecation compared these atelines. We discuss whether tamarin is redundant or complementary by On level our comparisons suggest redundancy complementarity depends on concerned. habitat level, New World probably complementary. Particularly, since are capable persisting in disturbed forests near human settlements, more likely contribute natural regeneration such areas than larger primates.

Seed dispersal by neotropical seed predators.
From a plant's perspective, the difference between a seed predator and a seed disperser should be straightforward: attract animals that will disperse seeds and defend seeds from potential predators. Unlike pulp-eating frugivores, seed predators regularly encounter diverse plant protective mechanisms. The purpose of this paper is to examine feeding constraints, morphological adaptations, and the...

obtained during interviews with the ex-inhabitants of an abandoned village near the Igarapé do Urucú (a left affluent of the Rio Sucundurí, along the Serra do Sucundurí) indicates that M. acariensis and another species of marmoset with blackish hairs occur in the area. As M. melanurus has been confirmed as occurring in the Sucundurí Mountains (Noronha, unpubl. data), it is possible that these s...

The conservation status of A. palliata, commonly referred to as black mantled howler monkey, is vulnerable in Colombia because of its decline in population. The distributional limit in the northeast of the country is not well defined and the dry forests of the north of the country are being destroyed at alarming rates. In the municipality of El Guamo (Bolívar) less than 20% of the landscape is ...
